Sr. Employee Relations Specialist

This position handles employee and physician relations support for Endeavor Health. This role serves as an advocate to employees and an internal consultant to leaders regarding routine and complex employee relations and physician relations matters, Endeavor Health policy interpretation and application, wage and hour compliance, FMLA, Harassment policy and Leave of Absence policies.

Position Highlights:

  • Position: Sr. Employee Relations Specialist

  • Location: Hybrid (Skokie, IL and remote)

  • Full Time/Part Time: Full Time

  • Hours: Monday-Friday, 8:00am-4:30pm

  • Required Travel: travel to other North Region locations required (Evanston, Highland Park, Glenview, and Arlington Heights)

What you will do:

  • Serve as an advocate to employees and as an internal consultant to leaders regarding employee and physician relations matters, Endeavor Health policy interpretation and application. Provide recommended course of action related to employee relations matters while ensuring compliance with applicable laws, contracts and employment agreements.

  • Employee relations cases including Physician Employee Relations

  • Conduct thorough investigations and recommend appropriate resolution to address issues. Partner with Legal, Risk, Quality and other areas of expertise needed to determine appropriate resolution. Prepare written responses when needed.

  • Collaborate with Manager, Legal and Professional Staff Office to prepare and review documentation ensuring accuracy and compliance with NS policies, contracts, physician employment agreements and applicable law.

  • Investigate and respond to Corporate Compliance complaints.

  • Respond to charges, in partnership with Legal, from the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, Department of Human Rights and others, by gathering relevant information, completing written responses and attending hearings if appropriate.

  • Represent NorthShore in the unemployment hearing process by gathering relevant information, educating manager, submitting response and participating in the hearing.

  • Inform Director, HR Physician Relations, Manager, HR Employee Relations and/or HR Business Partner of trends in employee relations matters, unresolved issues and potential legal issues.

  • Assists in creating standard operating procedures aligned to key policies for the employee relations team.

What you will need:

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Human Resources or related field, required. Master's degree in related field strongly preferred.

  • Certification: PHR or SPHR, preferred

  • Experience:

    • 3+ years HR generalist and/or employee relations experience required, preferably in a healthcare setting; labor relations experience preferred

    • Experience developing relationships with and consulting with all levels of staff and management.

    • Experience and interest in working successfully in a fast-paced, multi-site, complex and changing environment.

    • Previous experience in conflict-resolution and mediation between employees within various levels within the organization.

  • Unique or Preferred Skills:

    • Excellent interpersonal skills necessary to communicate effectively with all levels of NorthShore staff and the general public. Must be a persuasive and effective communicator, with the ability to relate to people across all levels and diverse backgrounds.

    • Ability to handle interactions with discretion, tact and courtesy.

    • Must have strong analytical reasoning skills, be a strong independent thinker and decision maker.

    • Demonstrated ability to prepare and present written material (investigation reports, proposals, EEOC position statements, project summaries) as needed

    • Strong attention to details.

    • Ability to assist managers in the resolution of employee and labor issues through advice and counsel.

    • Ability to prioritize and organize work and work independently.

    • Demonstrated ability to learn about internal customers' business operations, needs and challenges.

    • Strong customer focus orientation.

    • Knowledge of union awareness/prevention and labor strategies and state and federal employment laws pertaining to labor organizing.

    • Demonstrates in-depth and current knowledge of local, state and federal laws pertaining to employment policies and practices.

    • Must have intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
