Job Description
Summary

The Director of Academic Advising at Saint Xavier University, reporting to the Executive Director of Advising and Career Readiness, provides leadership to the institution's academic advising center. The director manages a team of primary-role academic advisors who advise all undergraduate students. The Director assists with implementing and assessing advisor training and collects data for the advising program to promote continuous improvement.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Directly supervise a team of academic advisors who advise all undergraduate majors at the institution.
  • In coordination with the Executive Director, develop ongoing advisor training using best practices and current trends learned from regional and national organizations.
  • Evaluate and assess advisor learning outcomes and use the findings to develop targeted training programs.
  • Manage the budget for the academic advising department, ensuring fiscal responsibility and resource optimization.
  • Oversee the caseload of academic advising staff and coordinate advisor assignments as needed.
  • Maintain a personal caseload of advisees to stay connected with the advising process and student needs.
  • Assist with the integration of advising into the institutional culture.
  • In coordination with the Executive Director, evaluate and assess student learning outcomes in the advising process as well as student satisfaction.
  • Manage departmental data collection and regularly provide reports to student success leadership.
  • In coordination with the Executive Director, develop a recognition ceremony for top-performing academic advisors.
  • In coordination with the Executive Director, develop a broad communication plan across the University about academic advising, e.g., road shows, meetings with faculty senate, staff council, and academic affairs leadership.
  • Implement strategies to enhance the effectiveness of academic advising services.
  • Serve on relevant committees within the institution to contribute to decision-making processes and represent the academic advising perspective.
  • Serve as an institutional administrator for EAB Navigate and assist end users in troubleshooting issues that arise.
  • Play a key role in planning the advising and registration components of new student orientation, facilitating a smooth transition for incoming students.
Qualifications

  • Masters in Higher Education, Education, College Student Personnel, Academic Advising, or other Relevant Field.
  • 3-5 years of relevant experience, preferably in academic advising
  • Familiarity with academic advising best practices, specifically NACADA framework including the core competencies
  • Strong leadership, interpersonal and communication skills,
  • Enthusiastic and innovative,
  • Desire to be a part of a highly motivated and performance-oriented team.
