SummaryThe Electrical Controls Engineer will work to design, test, improve, and support equipment designed by MiTek for the truss manufacturing industry. In this position, you will work on robust machinery design that helps customers to improve their production output. Electrical Controls Engineers will program, debug and update all control components such as PLCs, Safety instrumentation and controllers, VFDs and servo drives. You will design the full control system with schematics, control panels, electrical assembly and be involved in every stage of the system from concept to production. Electrical Controls Engineers work closely with Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineers, as well as Production, Software, Customer Service and other administrative departments to ensure a successful product.Job Responsibilities & RequirementsRESPONSIBILITIES:Design, develop, evaluate and support automated industrial machinery products with focus on Core Platform Support (CPS) in the Component Manufacturing (CM) and off-site construction industry with minimal supervision
Act as a technical lead for project execution artifacts of small scale deployments (i.e. cost estimates, schedules, resource needs, risks, forecasts, status, requirements reviews, design reviews, test readiness reviews, verification reviews, etc.)
Act as a technical lead for production and customer service team members through troubleshooting and root cause/corrective actions
Design, integrate, test and debug NFPA79/NEC/UL508A compliant electrical control panels, parts and assemblies using industry best practices without supervision
Design, integrate, test and debug industrial PLCs, VFDs, Servo drives with minimal supervision
Design, integrate, test, size and debug Industrial Machinery safety standards, compliant safety instrumentation and controllers without supervision
Work with software developers to generate HMIs (Software Development experience will be a significant advantage)
Develop and maintain project engineering drawings using AutoCAD Electrical (i.e. schematics, enclosures, control panel layouts, electrical assembly etc.) without supervision
Help develop and maintain project documentation (i.e. system requirements, equipment manuals, test plans, project notes, etc.)
Ensure compliance with MiTek engineering procedures, guidelines, industry standards and governmental regulations applicable to industrial machinery without supervision
Perform engineering analysis and calculations where applicable
Enter new/update existing data in MRP/ERP system without supervision
Support Manufacturing, Marketing & Sales, Purchasing, Installation, and Customer Service Organizations throughout a product's lifecycle
Review/stay current with industry trends & emerging technologies
Some travel required (up to 10% during critical on-site activities)
Other duties as assigned
Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from an accredited university and 4+ years of related experience; or 6+ years electrical design experience; or equivalent combination of education and professional experience
Proficiency wit power distribution, circuit breakers, and terminal blocks
Basic to intermediate knowledge PLCs, motor controllers, VFDs, servos, & sensors
Basic to intermediate knowledge of NFPA79/NEC/UL508A
Basic to intermediate knowledge of ladder logic PLCs
Basic to intermediate knowledge of Safety Controllers
Basic to intermediate proficiency with AutoCAD Electrical or SolidWorks Electrical
Basic to intermediate knowledge of machinery, industrial sensors and low voltage power devices
Basic to intermediate knowledge of various Field Bus Networks (EtherCat, Profinet, Ethernet/IP etc.)
Ability to rapidly diagnose & troubleshoot automated systems
Ability to work individually and as part of a team
Strong planning, organizational and decision-making skills
Strong communication skills to interact frequently with stakeholders
Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, etc.)
