Job Summary
Effectively plans and creates schedules for heating, cooling, and lighting controlled by the University's Building Automation Systems (BAS). Reviews how buildings are operating and determines what points and sequences may need adjustments to ensure optimal operation of HVAC systems and to minimize energy use and maximize occupant comfort. Troubleshoots and resolves issues that are discovered in regards to HVAC equipment. Serves as a liaison with technology support colleagues, other campus partners, and vendors.

Essential Functions
  • Develops and maintains schedules in the BAS to optimize comfort and reduce energy.
  • Reviews building settings and ensures all buildings under BAS control are functioning appropriately.
  • Works with existing BAS vendors(s) to maintain existing BAS equipment, optimize system performance, and make recommendations for enhancements, repairs and/or replacement.
  • Provides instruction and training for other team members as assigned.
  • Suggests additional energy-saving mechanical projects and other sustainability efforts as appropriate.
  • Edits and maintains PM schedules across the department in the work order system.
  • Researches reporting needs on campus, identifying potential reporting tools and making recommendations regarding their use.
  • Assists with defining metrics to assess the effectiveness of daily operations and for new procedures to identify where changes to existing reporting are required.
  • Assists in the development of plans to grow and mature utilization of the BAS consistent with established policies, procedures, and budget, with the aim of identifying and implementing energy reduction opportunities.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Ability to motivate and maintain good working relationships with employees and to provide good customer service when interacting with students, faculty, and staff.
  • Proven knowledge of building automation system tools, equipment, and computers, including current best practices relating to applications, safe operations, and security.
  • Detail-oriented with good problem-solving skills and the ability to anticipate and provide solutions that result in gained efficiencies and improved service.
  • Knowledge of pneumatic and digital controls.
  • Willingness to work overtime as needed, including weekends.
  • Associate degree in related field or relevant certifications and/or coursework.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Course work in vocational or trade school.
  • Bachelor's degree or higher.
Working Conditions/Physical Requirements
Employee is subject to both indoor and outdoor environmental conditions (temperatures varying from below 32 degrees to over 90 degrees) for periods of over one hour, subject to hazards such as proximity to moving parts, electrical current, etc., and involves heavy work exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or in excess of 50 pounds frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly in order to move objects. Ability to work in awkward or confined spaces. Must be able to climb stairs and ladders, and work in high places on scaffolding. Must be able to lift 50 pounds.
