RWE Clean Energy, LLC

The Assistant General Counsel within the procurement, construction and operations space, will provide legal support for RWE Clean Energy's renewable energy business teams in connection with our businesses in the development, construction and operation of wind, solar & battery storage renewable energy projects.

Responsibilities:

  • The work will be focused on the provision of legal advice in connection with renewable energy project procurement, construction and operations across technologies (wind, solar, battery storage, hydrogen)
  • Draft and negotiate procurement and construction contracts, such as turbine supply agreements, balance of plant agreements, EPC(I) & turnkey contracts, purchase agreements for components, service agreements, logistic and transportation contracts, associated exhibits, and ancillary documents
  • Negotiate terms and conditions for the purchase of other non-project based goods and services of all types
  • Provide legal support on HSE, R&D, IP, IT and insurance matters
  • Anticipate and mitigate potential legal problems within the organization and develop strategies to avoid litigation and reduce potential areas of risk
  • Collaborate with a variety of business stakeholders, including Procurement, Pre-Construction, Project Execution, Tax, Credit, Accounting, and Insurance
  • Provide project-specific legal support to Project Execution teams and project managers
  • Provide project-specific legal support to Project Operations team and O&M personnnel
  • Manage external legal counsel retained for specialized practices areas, i.e., litigation, tax, etc.
  • Maintain and update contract templates and other commonly requested legal forms

Qualifications:

  • Juris Doctorate from an accredited university, required.
  • 12 years ofexperience required or 10 years with specific experience working on complex construction projects and/or related procurement in a law firm or a company

  • Licensed, or the ability to become licensed, to practice law in Illinois

  • Legal knowledge and experience in construction work and renewable energy highly preferred

  • Ability to demonstrate practical, rather than theoretical focus to legal issues with a view to finding viable business solutions for those legal issues

  • Outstanding commercial, technical and strategic understanding

  • Strong interpersonal skills, with ability to manage customer relationships

  • Demonstrated desire to learn about the Company and the renewables space

  • Excellent proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook) and Teams

  • Strong leadership and communication, and ability to meet deadlines

  • Strong organization skills and ability to coordinate multiple tasks and deliverables

  • Ability to multi-task, while working independently and as part of a team

  • Motivated self-starter, goal-oriented, and strong problem-solving abilities

  • Proven ability to empathize, build relationships, and effectively communicate with people from a diverse set of backgrounds

  • Responds well to direction, is easy to challenge and develop, and is coachable

  • Detail-oriented, has strong business acumen, and a sound understanding of business concepts
