Job Description

General Summary:

Lurie Children's is a leading provider of pediatric care for children of all ages. The mission is to create a compassionate, nurturing environment where young patients feel safe, while delivering the best pediatric care experience for the entire family.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Provides clinical services to patients at Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children's Hospital of Chicago and its affiliates.

  • Obtains patients' histories from electronic records, patient interviews, dictated reports, and by communicating with referring clinicians. Prepares comprehensive interpretive reports of procedural findings.

  • Evaluates medical information to determine patients' risk factors (such as allergies to contrast agents) and to make decisions regarding the appropriateness of procedures.

  • Provides counseling to patients and referring providers to explain the processes, risks, benefits, and alternative treatments to image guided procedures.

  • Performs minimally invasive procedures using imaging guidance.

  • Annually monitors radiation dose for procedures involving radiation.

  • Ensures safety for patients and staff in Interventional Radiology.

  • Participates in continuing education activities to maintain and develop expertise.

  • Participates in Medical Imaging quality improvement activities.

  • Contributes to divisional and institutional research efforts.

  • Participates in outpatient clinics.

  • Oversees quality of all Interventional Radiology procedures.

  • Supervises and educates trainees.

  • Equipment oversight.

Education and Experience:

  • Doctorate in Medicine or Osteopathic Medicine

  • Valid licenses for State of Illinois

  • Board certification or board eligibility required

  • Completion of a residency in radiology at an ACGME accredited medical facility

  • Completion of an ACGME accredited fellowship in Interventional Radiology or Pediatric Interventional Radiology within 5 years of start date.

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills

  • Passion for pediatric care
