Job/Internship Description

Be a part of a dynamic team working to support the mission of the organization through strategy and WOW events! Destination DC (DDC), the official convention and tourism corporation for our nation's capital, is looking for a student who is passionate about Washington, DC and the travel industry to assist the Executive Office department.


Department Summary

Executive Office is a wide-ranging department that covers all aspects of Destination DC. This includes but is not limited to government affairs, industry relationships, board of directors engagement, events, and support of the President & CEO.


Reports To: Chief of Staff

Training

You can expect to receive training in these areas:

  • Scheduling best practices
  • Using the SimpleView CRM
  • Using Canva
  • Event preparation

Your Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist with calendar management for President & CEO.
  • Assist the Chief of Staff on deliverables for the President & CEO's board commitments
  • Assist the Events Team with Events.
  • Additional projects as assigned.

Event Support

  • Preliminary vendor/venue research; pulling members and contacts from Simpleview
  • Scheduling site visits to gain exposure to city and venues
  • Event preparation for on-site signage in Canva; badge support printing/stuffing; gathering materials ahead of event
  • Staffing for registration support, human signage, ushering, networking

Events Team Department Duties, as needed

  • Order support for events and gifts
  • Calendar/Scheduling - adding hold dates to events calendar, scheduling site visits, kickoff meetings
  • Other duties as assigned.

What You Bring: Education, Experience & Competencies

  • Must be junior or senior year college student, in good standing.
  • Educational background in tourism, hospitality, environmental studies, policy and planning, business development, marketing, cultural studies, or related fields.
  • Strong qualitative research skills and a sense of curiosity. Quantitative research skills a plus.
  • Great sense of humor, positive attitude.
  • Good organizational skills and ability to multi-task.
  • Exceptional customer service and business etiquette.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Technical proficiency with Microsoft Office and customer relationship management (CRM) systems recommended.

Internship Specifics:

Duration

  • Summer (May 28 - August 30).
  • This is a full-time position. You must commit 27+ hours per week, 5 days/week.
  • Position will follow Chief of Staff's in person (4 days in office) and remote work schedule.
    • Hours worked must be within the parameters of Monday-Friday, 8:30am-5pm EST to coincide with the operational hours of the office.

Work Environment

This Intern will follow Destination DC's policies for staff and may work hybrid, coming into the office at a minimum 4 days in office and remote work schedule. Intern may work from the office on other days, too. Intern must have reliable internet to work remotely.

Salary and Benefits
18 per hour Students receiving school credit for the internship will receive a weekly stipend. Students who do not receive school credit will earn $18-20/hour.
