Job Description
Major Responsibilities:
  • Determines appropriate radiographic technique and positions patient using immobilization and support devices to ensure optimum film quality
    • 1)Positions patient and adjusts equipment, immobilization and support devices as necessary, using tact and courtesy at all times
    • 2)Determines appropriate radiographic technique based on anatomy and patient's condition to obtain quality films to provide Radiologist with a diagnostic tool.
    • 3)Secures history from patient regarding reason for prescribed test, and records on appropriate form for Radiologists information.
  • Operation of advanced and digital, portable equipment, computed radiography and RIS/PACS.
    • 1)Demonstrates knowledge of all assigned imaging examinations and exam preparations, including but not limited to: evaluation of medical record documentation, venipuncture, patient identification, infection control procedures, and room set-up
    • 2)Demonstrates complete knowledge of anatomy and positioning of all imaging procedures
    • 3)Competently prepares and processes films/images according to department protocols
    • 4)Utilizes appropriate radiation protection measures and MRI safetyduring procedures for all hospital personnel, patients and self
  • Delivery of patient care with a "Service First" approach.
    • 1)Demonstrates and promotes team work with flexibility, willingness to assist other departmental service locations as requested, showing respect and cooperation with all departments and individuals, living the standards or behavior.
    • 2)Demonstrates excellent communication skills by answering questions from various hospital personnel, coordinating patient flow, and communicating with team members. Prioritizes emergency requests, expedites emergency room/Immediate Care procedures for Radiologists interpretation, collects and distributes related paperwork.
    • 3)Works independantly while maintaining a safe, professional and quality level of care delivery.
    • 4)Participates in team problem-solving issues that would improve patient care, department operations, image quality, inter-departmental relationships and associate satisfaction.
    • 5)Secures supplies and equipment for the department per protocol.
    • 6)Other duties as assigned.
  • Participates and assists with film quality initiatives and QA/QI activities.
    • 1)Checks film quality to assure optimum quality and makes sure correct film labeling is provided.
    • 2)Participates and recommends changes that would improve film quality.
    • 3)Participates in the department Performance Improvement data collection.
    • 4)Assumes an active role in assisting the coordinators communicate optimum film quality to technical staff.
  • Ensure a secure and safe patient and work environment by maintaining continued awareness of safety hazards
    • 1)Adheres to safety practices and provides a safe work environment for self and others
  • Development of leadership skills and professionalism for self through participation in department and/or hospital based committees and continuing education programs
    • 1)Attends to personal work schedule in a consistent and professional manner.
    • 2)Demonstrates self-direction by identifying learning needs and establishing self-development activities.
    • 3)Completes all development goals and departmental inservices and competencies, within timeframe
    • 4)Attends and participates in department meetings
    • 5)Works independently while maintaining adaptability and flexibility for change
    • 6)Identifies problems and takes steps toward resolution.
    • 7)Assumes a leadership role in providing instruction and direction to students participating in the clinical program and helps evaluate performance.
    • 8)Provides instruction and direction to Technologists in the performance of specific related duties.


Education/Experience Required:
  • - Must be a graduate of an AMA approved school of Radiologic Technology is required. -This position will need to recognize needs and behaviors of a variety of age groups of patients treated, ie., understand child growth and development, normal patterns of adolescent behavior and look for signs of normal aging; prior experience with various age groups is preferred.


Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:
  • -Ability to work independently and able to perform most sophisticated and specialty procedures with minimal supervision. -Ability to operate most radiographic/fluoroscopic equipment within work areas of Radiology. -Demonstrates knowledge and confidence in performance of radiology procedures. -Demonstrates good team work and cooperation with internal/external customers. -Good communication skills. -Demonstrates leadership abilities.
  • -Licensed Radiographic Technologist by the IEMA-CPR certification -ARRT (American Registry of Radiologic Technologists) eligible.


Physicial Requirements and Working Conditions:
  • -Exposed to radiation. -Ability to operate portable equipment. -Ability to communicate with patients. -Ability to adjust to flexible work hours. -Ability to work weekends, holidays and emergency call-back. -Ability to participate in the "on-call" program and available to department needs with minimal notice. -Ability to do light, medium or heavy lifting. LIGHT: Lifting up to 20 pounds occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds frequently. MEDIUM: Lifting up to 20-50 pounds occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds constantly. HEAVY: Lifting 50 to 100 pounds occasionally and/or 10 to 20 pounds constantly. -Ability to make independent professional decisions using good judgment skills. -Ability to practice high quality patient care and technical competence. -Ability to function with minimal assistance in performing job activities. -Ability to demonstrate oral and written communication skills. -May be exposed to hazardous chemicals such as film processing chemicals. -Ability to attend out-of-town site visits to view equipment.
  • If position has direct patient care or direct patient contact the following lifting requirement supersedes any previous lifting requirement effective 06/01/2015. Ability to lift up to 35 pounds without assistance. For patient lifts of over 35 pounds, or when patient is unable to assist with the lift, patient handling equipment is expected to be used, with at least one other associate, when available. Unique patient lifting/movement situations will be assessed on a case-by-case basis.
