The Hammond Nutrien (Hammond) facility is located at 5901 Hump Road, Hammond, in Lake County, Indiana. The entire facility is comprised of approximately 92.05 acres of land. The facility receives bulk potash (a potassium-rich salt also known as Potassium Chloride) via railcar from Nutrien's potash mines located in Canada. The material is stored at the facility until it is loaded into railcars and delivered to Nutrien's agricultural clients for use in fertilizers. There are approximately 6 onsite employees, 3 railyard, and 2 Warehouse operators and the Terminal Manager. Operators are tasked in loading and unloading railcars as well as minor maintenance on equipment. The ideal candidate would be someone who has a level of mechanical aptitude, the ability to work at heights, and in good physical condition for general housekeeping and maintenance throughout the facility. As an operator you will also be tasked in performing general grounds keeping such as mowing, weed whacking, trimming shrubbery, etc.

What you will do:

  • Have an excellent sense of safety and be able to demonstrate Safety Guidance
  • Operate and monitor equipment
  • Operate computerized and non-computerized control systems
  • Perform terminal site maintenance
  • Troubleshoot and analyze all types of rotating equipment
  • Record and enter data readings
  • Provide excellent customer service to all internal and external customers
  • Adhere to local, state and federal governmental regulations and standards

What you will bring:

  • Minimal experience needed - On the job training provided
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Valid driver's license required
  • Safety mindset
  • Positive attitude
  • Team oriented and reliable
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills
  • Mechanical experience is welcomed but not required
  • Possess intermediate computer skills, including Microsoft Office
  • Works with minimal supervision and is self-motivated
  • Willingness to learn with continuous improvement mindset
  • Available for overtime and to be "on-call" to support Terminal during non-typical working hours as needed
  • Must be willing to travel occasionally for training courses and/or to assist at other terminals
  • Must live within a 25-mile radius from the site
  • Instrumentation/electrical experience an asset
  • Process Safety Management (PSM), experience an asset
