Who we are looking for:

We are currently searching for a Plant Buyer to be based out of our Hobart, IN facility. Reporting to the Director - Material Sourcing, this person be responsible for all purchasing activities in support of the Hobart and other facilities as needed. These responsibilities include requesting quotes, negotiating contract terms, writing and processing purchase orders, identifying/resolving any commercial discrepancies, and managing supplier relationships in accordance with Atkore's purchasing strategies.

What you'll do:

  • Create purchase orders and facilitate all changes and expedites; reconcile pending invoices and updates master file records as needed.
  • Take ownership and actively maintain proper order processing, inclusive of DOA, GL accuracy, and data entry.
  • Act as liaison between commodity vendors, sales departments, demand planning, scheduling, and various operation departments to ensure timely delivery of quality products.
  • Implement procurement best practices such as Economic Order Quantities and Just in Time material deliveries when necessary.
  • Facilitate meetings between company and vendor representatives to ensure open communication for all issues, including quality, delivery and cost when necessary.
  • Participate in Kaizen and TPI events to support continuous improvement and Lean initiatives.
  • Work with all departments including Quality, Logistics, Finance, and Manufacturing to obtain the best pricings, quality, service and delivery.
  • Participate in strategic sourcing decisions to achieve corporate goals and objectives.
  • Manages Ad hoc projects and reports to support the development and implementation of MRP systems; manage the databases associated with the procurement modules.

What you'll bring:

  • Bachelor's degree in business, supply chain management, or a related technical field is required.
  • Must have 1+ years of experience working in Operations, Manufacturing, or Supply Chain management.
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office applications especially Excel, experience using database access tools (SQL queries, etc) is strongly preferred.
  • Experience and working knowledge in Lean, 5S, Kaizen Events and Gemba boards preferred.
  • Manufacturing or six sigma methodologies and problem-solving skills are a plus.
  • Excellent written and communication skills, the ability to write procedures, good training skills.

Within 3 months, you'll:

  • Complete your new hire "Immersion" so that you are ready to rock in your new role.
  • Have developed relationships with the key stakeholders for this role.
  • Have learned our systems and procedures.

Within 6 months, you'll:

  • Understand the business well enough to own and drive operational activities with minimal internal support.
  • Maintain and be accountable for KPI reporting while actively participating in Lean Daily Management activities.
  • Have assumed ownership of targeted locations and accountable for performance expectations.

Within 12 months, you'll:

  • Manage the onboarding of green field sites.
  • Own and maintain master data for assigned locations.
  • Be developing and driving best practices and demonstrating an ability to get results through influencing others.
