Position Summary:

Directs the development, maintenance, and reporting of operating and capital budgets for Endeavor Health nursing, the Endeavor Health Research Institute, and North Region foundations. Determines budget and reporting needs and delivers the strategy to meet those needs. Develops and maintains process for department/division monthly operating reviews for supported areas. Leads the financial support of the Endeavor Health Research Institute and provides financial expertise to Research Institute leadership. Evaluates and recommends the acquisition of tools required to support these processes and systems. Collaborates with the System Chief Nursing Officer, local Chief Nursing Officers, Vice President Innovation and Research, and Foundation leadership to identify operational and financial issues and partners with them to develop actions to improve management controls, profitability, and processes. Reviews or prepares all relevant financial information and financial analysis to determine and report on financial status, financial trends, cash flow, and the like. Reviews or prepares financial proforma analysis to determine the financial feasibility of projects and makes recommendations on the viability of the project. Ensures the efficient flow of information to support financial decisions, reporting, and business planning efforts. Implements cross-functional and multi-disciplinary initiatives to improve results based upon opportunities identified during review of productivity information and monthly operating reviews by using process management tools and methodologies that drive efficiency.

What you will do:

  • Ensures optimal effectiveness of budget and financial reporting systems. Oversees the effective and timely distribution of accurate budget and financial information to nursing, Research Institute, and foundation leadership.
  • Engages with Chief Nursing Officers, Vice President Research and Innovation, and foundation leadership to address division and program wide budgets and financial reporting.
  • Leads the operating and capital budget process for the nursing and Research Institute across the Endeavor Health system including analysis, reporting, and recommending strategies to achieve goals. Collaborates with leaders to address financial and utilization opportunities and implements strategies to achieve divisional and organizational goals.
  • Coordinates with decision support to ensure the overall data integrity of reports, analysis and summaries generated by budget and financial reporting systems. Develops procedures and audits to ensure data integrity is maintained.
  • Leads and coordinates monthly operating reviews for nursing, Research Institute, and foundations. Monitors and analyzes key performance measures and benchmarks results against goals.
  • Ensures variances are researched, analyzed and any necessary adjustments are made to ensure goals are achieved.
  • Partners with the Vice President Innovation and Research to ensure the Endeavor Health Research Institute's financial needs are met including but not limited to the review of grant applications, reporting of cost amongst active research studies, and reporting of Research Institute financial performance.
  • Identifies and prioritizes opportunities for improvement and educates operational leaders on financial reporting with the goals of improving financial acumen, accomplishing improvements, and building capacity of others. Works to enhance cost accounting and cost tracking across Research Institute activities.
  • Assists in monthly, quarterly, and year-end financial closing process in partnership with the Controller and Vice President Finance, North Region. Researches and provides variance explanations to Vice President Finance, North Region for the Endeavor Health Research Institute, nursing, and foundations.
  • Coordinates with decision support to drive enhancements to cost accounting to improve the ability to better align nursing labor to patients and further refine our labor cost accounting processes.
  • Responsible for developing processes to meet operational goals for supported divisions and identifies corrective actions and making changes to ensure goals are achieved.
  • In coordination with the Vice President Finance, North Region identifies and provides financial improvement opportunities across Endeavor Health nursing and ensures results are tracked toward established goals.
  • Responsible for the training and professional development of staff. Ensures cross-training opportunities are built into department strategy to establish depth of knowledge and flexibility in staff utilization.
  • Acts as a key resource to operational leadership, other hospital personnel, management team, and external parties by answering general questions and assisting in the resolution of problems. Investigates, researches, and resolves complex, confidential, and technical issues and problems.
  • Interviews, hires, orients, trains, evaluates the performances of and, when necessary, disciplines and/or discharges department personnel. Provides direction, as necessary, to staff regarding sensitive and/or complex work, related problems, resolves complaints and responds to inquiries regarding department operations.
  • Takes initiative and ownership of issues, is responsible, organized, efficient, and focused on goals. Consistently follows through on commitments and gets results. Able to think outside of current practices, roles, and conditions to creatively generate new possibilities for solutions, expectations, and efficiencies. Exercises a high level of confidentiality and sound judgment in accessing, using, and sharing sensitive information.

Proactively anticipates customer needs and ensures the team is providing clear, concise analytical data that is user friendly and easily understood. Thoroughly understands source of data and can easily explain how and why the information was derived and manipulated.
  • Fosters innovative thinking and functions as a change agent to facilitate greater efficiencies, higher quality output and improved customer service.
  • Conducts special analyses and projects as assigned, and prepares reports detailing the findings for Vice President Finance, North Region review.

What you will need:

Minimum Education Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or a related field

Experience

  • Minimum ten years of previous finance and budget management experience.
  • Minimum of eight years in a leadership role
