Job Description
Genesis10 is currently seeking a Human Resources Payroll Manager for a perm role working a hybrid schedule (2 days onsite, 3 days remote) with our client in their Chicago, IL location.

Summary:
The Payroll Manager is responsible for managing payroll activities including processing payroll, leading/supporting payroll related projects, directing management of day-to-day payroll activities. The Payroll Manager leads a team of two Payroll Specialists, ensuring compliance with collective bargaining agreements for both hourly and salaried union employees. Proficiency in UKG Pro and UKG WFM products is essential for success in this role.

Responsibilities:
  • Payroll Processing Oversight: Manage and oversee the weekly, end-to-end payroll processing cycle ensuring accuracy and compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Union Compliance: Understand and interpret collective bargaining agreements for hourly and salaried union employees, ensuring payroll practices align with contractual obligations.
  • System Management: Utilize UKG Pro and UKG WFM products effectively to streamline payroll processes, troubleshoot issues, and implement system enhancements as needed.
  • Benefit Administration: Serve as company administrator and employee contact for any issues or questions relating to 401(k), Flexible Spending Accounts or Group Life and Long Term Disability insurance.
  • Exit Interviews: Conduct exit interviews with departing employees to gather feedback and insights while providing information on final payments, insurance eligibility/COBRA, and 401(k) actions. Ensures a smooth transition and identifying opportunities for process improvement.
  • Retirement Preparation: Collaborate with Pension department to prepare employees for transition into retirement with appropriate forms or information for retiree insurance, if applicable.
  • Policy Enforcement: Track employee timecard policies and issues discipline if warranted.
  • Auditing and Reporting: Participate in regular audits to validate payroll and benefits data accuracy and generate reports for management review and decision-making. Perform research projects related to grievances, arbitrations, and federal and state litigation.
  • Policy and Procedure Development: Develop and maintain payroll and benefits policies and procedures in accordance with best practices and regulatory requirements.
  • Employee Support: Serve as a subject matter expert on payroll, tax, and benefits-related inquiries, providing timely and accurate responses to employees and stakeholders.
  • Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities for process optimization and efficiency gains within the payroll and benefits functions, implementing improvements as appropriate.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with cross-functional teams, including Finance and HR, to ensure alignment on payroll and benefits-related matters and support company-wide initiatives.
  • Compliance and Risk Management: Stay abreast of legislative changes and industry trends affecting payroll and benefits practices, proactively mitigating compliance risks.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Human Resources, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in payroll management, preferably in a unionized environment.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in UKG Pro and UKG WFM products.
  • Strong understanding of collective bargaining agreements, union payroll regulations, and retirement/pension benefits administration.
  • Excellent leadership and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively manage a team and be collaborative within a team environment.
  • Detail-oriented with a commitment to accuracy and data integrity.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
