Overview

Orrick currently has an excellent opportunity for an Engagement Analyst I. This position could be based in any of our U.S. offices (Austin; Chicago; Boston; Houston; Los Angeles; New York; Menlo Park; Orange County; Portland; Sacramento; San Francisco; Santa Monica; Seattle; Washington DC; or Wheeling, WV) and consideration given for 100% remote US locations.

In this role you will be essential to the firm's risk management efforts by being responsible for the primary administrative functions that support the review, organization, and tracking of Outside Counsel Guidelines, Master Services Agreements, and other non-standard engagement agreements between the firm and its clients (collectively, "OCGs"). You will work with Risk & Compliance Counsel ("RCCs"), the General Counsel team, other department leaders, and firm lawyers to track and manage the receipt, review, analysis, resolution, and coding of OCGs.

Responsibilities
    Manages the intake and workflow relating to OCGs, including researching, and preparing a summary of current engagement agreements, facilitating the review of OCGs by various stakeholders (RCCs, GC team, Finance, IT, etc.), and communicating with firm lawyers to ensure timely resolution.
  • Manages record keeping ensuring that OCGs are properly maintained, coded, tagged, and updated in the Terms database and the document management system.
  • Responsible for status reporting, updates, and follow-ups as as needed to facilitate the timely review and resolution of OCGs.
  • Supports important firm initiatives through proper management and reporting of key provisions, including, but not limited to, information security, data privacy, diversity, corporate affiliate clauses, waiver provisions, indemnification, and records retention.
  • Required to maintain the highest level of confidentiality of all firm records and files.
  • Coordinates with Director of Intake Risk & Compliance, and IRC Project Managers on technology developments, including integrations with Intapp, the new business process, administrative filing, and the firm portal.
  • Coordinates with Director of Intake Risk & Compliance, IRC Project Managers, RCCs, and ethics counsel on improvements to workflow surrounding OCGs, including but not limited to Intapp and other firm databases.
  • Supports the new client/matter and conflict processes as necessary with respect to the status and approval of OCGs.
  • Assists with training and development needs, including helping to develop training programs for legal and non-legal staff members on the OCGs systems and procedures and assisting with continuing education programs relative to such.
  • Supports RCCs and the GC team in connection with providing guidance to the firm's attorneys with respect to OCGs in potential conflict situations.
  • Assists the Director of New Business & Conflicts with creating and implementing effective electronic information processes.
  • Participates in New Business & Conflicts departmental project teams and task forces designed to streamline workflow and/or resolve issues; assists with various firm and/or departmental projects and initiatives as assigned.
  • Assumes additional responsibilities as requested.
Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience required. J.D., M.A., M.S. in Library and Information Science, or other advanced degree preferred but not required.
  • 3-5 years of related experience, including experience with project management, researching, and synthesizing large amounts of data, and implementing technology solutions to address challenges. Previous conflicts, paralegal, or legal assistant experience is preferred.
  • Previous experience within a law firm or other professional services firm preferred.
  • Familiarity with legal ethics or compliance desirable.
  • Must have a strong attention to detail; excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills; and the ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Must demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Team-oriented with a proven ability to maintain open lines of communication within and between departments and attorneys to share knowledge and support collaborative efforts in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Ability to manage technology and process changes within a dynamic and progressive organization while maintaining a commitment to the firm's core values.
  • Proven ability to exercise sound decision-making abilities and good judgment.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; demonstrates a strong customer service orientation towards internal and external clients; proven ability to interact with all levels of management, staff, and lawyers in a highly effective and professional manner.
  • Proficient personal computer skills and knowledge of firm software and technology, including MS Excel, Word, and Teams, and the conflicts database.

Compensation and Benefits

The expected salary range for this position is between:

  • California Major Markets* $53,000 - $74,000
  • New York City $57,000 - $74,000
  • National $50,000 - $64,000

* California Major Markets includes San Francisco, Silicon Valley, Los Angeles, Orange County, Santa Monica. All other California locations fall within National range.

Orrick is committed to providing a comprehensive, competitive, and thoughtful total compensation package to our attorneys and staff, wherever they work. This compensation and benefits information is based on the Orrick's estimate as of the date of publication and may be modified in the future. The level of pay within the range will depend on a variety of job-related factors that may include, but not limited to, qualifications, relevant experience or education, particular skills or expertise, geography. Other compensation may include an annual discretionary merit bonus, which would be determined by Firm and individual performance.
