Description:

The University of Illinois Chicago's Center for Drug Discovery (UICentre) is seeking a motivated postdoctoral research associate to join a Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation-funded, collaborative, medicinal chemistry project to optimize novel chemical entities in support of drug discovery and development of antiviral therapeutics.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Synthesize drug candidates and molecular probes. These compounds will be evaluated in the laboratory of a collaborator, and data received will guide the next cycle of design and synthesis.
  • Conduct organic syntheses.
  • Assess purity and identity by standard analytical techniques.
  • Characterize drug candidates in biological and biochemical assays.
  • Conduct target identification experiments.
  • Maintain accurate records of laboratory activities.
  • Interpret results and propose further research steps.
  • Present results in lab meetings and at local and national scientific conferences.
  • Assist in the preparation of manuscripts for publication and reports to sponsors.
  • Train other group personnel.
  • Participate in maintaining group instruments and materials.
  • Follow and exhibit proper safety practices; contribute to the lab's safety culture.
  • Assist with laboratory management.

    Preferred Qualifications
    • Knowledge of protein crystallography is highly desirable
    • Experience with multistep organic synthesis and reaction optimization
    • Experience in medicinal chemistry and analyzing structure-activity relationships
    • Ability to maintain careful and organized records
    • Ability to work productively in a collaborative environment
