JOB DESCRIPTION

A joint venture between the Big Ten Conference and FOX Networks, Big Ten Network is the first internationally distributed network dedicated to covering one of the premier collegiate conferences in the country. With more than 2,200 live events across all platforms, the 24/7 network is the ultimate destination for Big Ten fans and alumni across the country, allowing them to see their favorite teams, regardless of where they live.

Big Ten Network is seeking a Director, Human Resources to join their team in Chicago, IL. This role will directly support the Big Ten Network employee population including employees based at the Chicago studio as well as those who work on remote events. The Director will lead the HR function for the BTN business and will focus on overseeing and providing strategic human resources planning, talent acquisition, training & development programs, employee relations, performance management, succession planning, and compliance. This includes hiring & onboarding, payroll support, training, and assisting with summer programs for students and recent graduates of Big Ten institutions. The ideal candidate will be exceptionally detail-oriented, resourceful, collaborative, and have experience working in a fast-paced environment.

A SNAPSHOT OF YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Utilize the Workday platform to update freelance employee actions, including new hire onboarding, terminations, transfers, and additional data
  • Communicate and partner with hiring managers and crewing teams to ensure successful and accurate onboarding. Including, but not limited to, troubleshooting and validation for data integrity
  • Manage the form I-9 process and ensure consistent follow-up and procedures are performed daily while partnering with the FOX Compliance team
  • Monitor and track freelance headcount approvals and business justifications
  • Liaise with Payroll, Recruiting, and HR Operations to manage and resolve day-to-day employee issues or discrepancies
  • Respond and resolve internal and external freelance HR-related inquiries
  • Conduct training sessions for business related to freelance onboarding and I-9 verifications
  • Communicate and interpret company policy and procedures
  • Special projects and other duties as requested, including providing the Human Resources department with overflow assistance, employee engagement, etc.

WHAT YOU WILL NEED

  • 8+ years of experience in Human Resources
  • 3 years of experience managing a team
  • Knowledge & experience with the Workday HRIS software
  • Working knowledge of Human Resources practices, policies, and basic Illinois employment laws
  • Able to develop and maintain strong working relationships with the HR team and all employees particularly those that are remote
  • Business savvy and demonstrate a strategic focus and sense of urgency and confidentiality
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
  • Strong computer skills (Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook)
