Responsibilities

We currently have an opportunity for a Sr. Scientist, Assay Technologies Development (Cell, Gene). The Senior Scientist, Assay Technologies Development is responsible for experimental work with cells and genes involving conventional measurements such as flow-cytometry and PCR. Sample preparation techniques such as cell culturing and gene extraction are required. Basic protein chemistry knowledge and experience with ELISA is a plus. New assay development includes tasks such as literature research, assay design, material sourcing, reagent preparation, assay prototyping, analytical & clinical performance evaluation for the prototype assay. Furthermore, it is expected that this individual will propose new projects utilizing internal or external technologies that will lead to new product ideas. The proposal will include project planning such as resourcing, budgeting, time management, etc. The Senior Scientist, Assay Technologies Development will also contribute to various R&D projects with internal and external members following the direction of Sysmex Corporation.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Execute and implement R&D projects to meet objectives following timelines.

2. Conduct measurements; utilizing existing or new technologies, perform experiments and data analysis, mainly focusing on measurements.

3. Develop and evaluate novel assays; develop and evaluate novel assays to measure new analytes and reactions, primarily using in-house measurement platforms.

4. Management of experiments; supervise a team of scientists and manage the experimental work of the entire group.

5. Joint research and development; Promote joint projects with internal and external collaborators while building good relationships with them.

6. Research and analysis work; research the market, competitors, and related technologies through articles and books, the Internet, participation in academic conferences, interviews with KOLs, and other methods, and summarize the results.

7. Propose new projects; in accordance with the company's R&D policy, propose new R&D projects that will lead to the creation of new value.

8. Reporting of results; store and manage experimental data, etc. and results of investigations in the prescribed manner, and report the progress and results of work to the supervisor at the appropriate time.

9. Observance of rules; perform work in accordance with the company's established rules, such as rules for the use of expenses and laboratories.

10. Other duties and projects as may be assigned.

Travel Percentage: 0 - 5%

Physical Risk: Regular exposures to risk that may require special training and precautions.

Physical Demands: Light physical effort. Routine handling of objects up to 20 pounds; prolonged (at least 50% of time) sitting, standing, keyboard or CRT work. May require periods of moderate discomfort due to noise, dust, lighting and/or other conditions.

Qualifications

    MS/Ph.D. degree in Life Sciences, Biology, Engineering, or other technical or scientific area. Minimum of 10 years' experience of R&D.

  • Knowledge and experience in conventional measurements such as flow-cytometer, PCR, and/or ELISA, biological sample preparation, and handling is required
  • Experience in Cell Culture techniques
  • MS Office; PowerPoint, Excel, Word, Internet.

  • Build strong relationships with peers and cross functionally with partners outside of team to enable higher performance.

  • Demonstrated ability to evaluate procedure, analyze data and make decisions critical to the appropriate assessment of research result.

  • Demonstrated ability to plan and manage complex research activity.

  • Demonstrated ability to both independently and collaboratively solve complex problems.

  • Collaboration experience with academia.

  • Supervisory experience.

  • Basic presentation and persuasive skills desirable.
