UHS is currently recruiting for our CMO at Independence Physician Management (IPM). Independence Physician Management (IPM), a subsidiary of UHS, was formed in 2012 as the physician services unit of UHS. IPM develops and manages multi-specialty physician networks and urgent care clinics which align with UHS acute care and behavioral health facilities. IPM operates in 13 markets across seven states and the District of Columbia. Currently there are over 880 providers and 2190 employees in 12 Physician Networks. Our leadership team, practitioners, and teams of healthcare professionals are collectively dedicated to improving the health and wellness of people in the communities we serve. Independence Physician Management offers practice management and managed services to help physicians better manage their practices so they can concentrate on caring for their patients.

The Chief Medical Officer (CMO) for IPM serves as the physician leader and clinical content matter expert for IPM. Actively engages providers across the markets and collaborates with local quality and administrative leadership personnel to develop and promote value-based healthcare delivery by promoting the practice of evidence-based medicine, from a clinical and quality standpoint, across IPM.

Essential Duties:

  • The IPM CMO oversees and guides the IPM Program Director of Quality (direct report) and IPM corporate and market Quality team members, in the delivery of consistently high-quality patient care, with greater efficiency while optimizing costs.
  • This role focuses on the development, maintenance, and expansion (as needed) of market quality teams in the effort to maximize payer plan and VBC performance and identifies appropriate market resources - IS/IT, equipment, provider/quality staff education, to ensure successful outcomes.
  • Collaborates with IPM and UHS risk and compliance departments to optimize risk mitigation through the institution of appropriate guidelines, policies, and protocols. The IPM CMO will give clinical support and guidance for evaluating malpractice claims, consent-to-settle discussions or other legal, risk and compliance issues that may arise across IPM.
  • The Chief Medical Officer works with other IPM and UHS personnel to develop and maintain key initiatives, such as delegated credentialing (chairing clinical committee) and PSO activities. Takes responsibility for clinically vetting new provider additions to IPM and provides clinical guidance in due diligence efforts for acquisitions or joint ventures.
  • The IPM CMO provides clinical/professional leadership and support to minimize the impact of provider issues to patients, clinics, and the market. Working closely with UHS, IPM and market leadership this includes intervention, review, education, and recommendations on corrective action plans and performance improvement plans.

  • The IPM CMO is responsible for the establishment and maintenance of a network of IPM Market Physician Leaders. This is accomplished through a comprehensive knowledge of the markets and their providers, strengths/weaknesses/needs, and seeking input from local hospital CEOs and RVPs. Conducts regular mentoring and educational sessions for market physician leaders in support of their overall professional development, providing feedback and guidance at critical junctures. Conducts monthly Market Physician Leader group meetings acting as a physician council for ambulatory. The CMO fosters provider alignment and performance to meet and exceed patient, payer, network, and regulatory performance expectations.

  • The IPM CMO maintains crucial relationships and regularly collaborates with IPM and Acute Risk, Compliance, HR, and all levels of leadership to maximize success of the quality programs and providers. In addition, the IPM CMO works closely with hospital CEOs to achieve the best continuum of care for patients as a crucial component for the overall success of patient care delivery within UHS.
  • The IPM Chief Medical Officer regularly meets and works closely with market IPM leadership, IPM quality personnel, market physician leaders and where indicated, market providers, to optimize clinic protocols, workflows, resourcing, quality assurance, competencies, infection protocols and any issues that may arise.

Qualifications

  • MD/DO degree from an accredited program required.
  • Licensed to practice medicine required.
  • Board Certified, primary care preferred.
  • MBA or equivalent preferred.
  • Ability to travel up to 25%
  • Minimum of ten years of practice experience.
  • Management experience required.
  • Prior experience with Population Health Initiatives and Value Based Care required.
  • Meets all credentialing criteria required by participating physicians.
