City Cruises is seeking a Training Supervisor for our Food and Beverage operation in Chicago, IL.

Job Summary:
The Training Supervisor is responsible for the initial and ongoing training of all new hires and current staff. They must be able to coordinate training for all staff so they are prepared to execute friendly and enthusiastic service to a section of about 30 guests while maintaining our quality service standards. During this time they must provide the ultimate experience in Hospitality and Entertainment while maintaining proper cost controls. All employee manuals, agendas, work books, tests, and handouts must be maintained by this position as well.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Staff Management
    • Schedule all training and follow shifts
    • Check in with all new hires to assist with onboarding and integration, answer questions and
      help solve any problems
    • Help to create training quizzes and tests for all new hires as well as current serving staff
    • Work as a supervisor on cruises where new staff is training to lend a helping hand and ensure
      the training standards are being executed and that all staff is adhering to our quality standards
    • Keep all staff motivated throughout training
    • Be an active and enthusiastic participant utilizing the Our Service System (OSS) standards and
      practices
    • Develop positive working relationships with city department heads and peers
    • Develop strong teamwork within the staff
    • Assist with development and execution of employee incentive programs
  • Cruise Execution
    • Assist with managing the FOH staff, including recruitment, training, coaching/discipline, and
      retention of assigned vessel
    • Ensure that staff is trained and consistently follows and adheres to proper alcohol service
      guidelines, thereby ensuring the safety of each guest
    • Ensure that all staff consistently follows and adheres to all health department sanitation codes
      and requirements, thereby maintaining the Company's strict standards of sanitation
    • Observe and recommend line-staff that may require further training and development to ensure
      proper and effective service
    • Recommend approved programs that improve the level of service and product quality
  • Administration
    • OSS Training
    • Tip Declaration Training
    • Update and maintaining all manuals
    • Update and maintain accurate employee and training files
    • Create timeline for all new hires prior to day 1 of training
    • Create interactive training agenda for all new hires
    • Document all new hire activity with daily progress reports
    • Follow up with all FOH staff in a continued effort to maintain ongoing training
  • Accountabilities:
    • The successful training supervisor will personally contribute to the retention of staff. Training is often
      the benchmark and first impression that someone will have of the job. Organization, personalized
      interest and follow through will help to ensure that FOH staff is not put on the floor before they are
      ready. This will reduce stress for new hires as well as their peers. The result is improved retention of
      employees, thus lowering turnover costs

Requirements & Qualifications:

  • High school degree or equivalency required
  • Understanding and ability to execute all FOH positions
  • Experience in high volume dining
  • High energy!!!
  • Strong communication skills and ability to speak and teach large groups
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Patience
  • Responsible alcohol service requirements. TIPS Certification recommended
  • Health department sanitations codes & requirements. ServSafe Certification recommended
  • Mathematical skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication and division) necessary to interpret reports and
    budgets
  • Communicate effectively in oral and written form
  • Train, develop and motivate staff
  • Analyze and solve problems
  • Ability to read, write, and speak English to comprehend and communicate job functions
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities/tasks
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships as required by job responsibility
  • Provide advice/opinion and exercise discretion concerning confidential and sensitive matters
  • Listen effectively, assesses the situation, determine relevant issues, identify solutions and gain consensus
  • Set aside emotional factors and/or validate them in order to discover key/relevant issues
  • Work with Microsoft Office applications (especially Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
