Staffing Educator & Infection Control RN:

Full-Time, Weekdays, Day Shift

The Ridge Behavioral Health System is a 110-bed hospital located in the heart of the Bluegrass, Lexington, KY. The Ridge provides psychiatric and substance use disorder treatment for children, adolescents, and adults. The Ridge offers Partial Hospitalization, Intensive Outpatient Programs, Individual Counseling, as well as Medication Management for all ages. We have provided behavioral health services to over 92 Kentucky counties for more than 39 years.

The Staffing Educator/Infection Control RN plans, develops, and coordinates continuing clinical and non-clinical in-service education programs within The Ridge BHS for all staff. This role also serves as the Infection Control Nurse within The Ridge BHS for all staff.

The Staff Educator works with facility leadership and staff to assess current educational needs and develops a plan to satisfy those needs. The position also assists in ongoing revision and implementation of policies and procedures, protocol development and equipment implementation. This position is involved in the orientation of new staff and coordinates CPR certification for staff as needed. This position functions with limited supervision and must be able to work effectively across all hospital departments. Additionally, the Staff Educator is expected to stay current on the latest care techniques within their own educational area of expertise. Follows and abides by company policies, procedures, and Corporate Compliance Program, as applicable to role and responsibilities.

Job Duties Include:

  • Staff Educator
    • Surveys employees to identify needs for training and education.
    • Assures staff trainings address any changes in health care management and health science and technology.
    • Ensure that education and training programs address areas of deficiencies identified via the performance appraisal system, per reviews, chart audits, and recommendations form safety and infection control committee.
    • Ensure the designs of the education and training programs are based on instructional strategies to enhance staff retention.
    • Works in collaboration with the Director of HR to coordinate new employee orientation (NEO) and to ensure compliance with regulatory standards.
    • Observes new employees on the unit and provides reeducation as necessary.
    • Ensures the department specific orientation checklists are completed by the new employee's preceptor(s) and are turned into HR.
  • Infection Control Nurse
    • Administer and ensure compliance with TB Skin tests for all new hires and annually as required.
    • Administer and ensure compliance with the Respiratory Fit Testing program for all new hires and annually as required.
    • Coordinate and participate in the annual flu clinic.
    • Complete monthly infection control rounds.
    • Participate in the antibiotic stewardship program; running reports and doing follow up work with providers.

Qualifications

Education

  • A Registered Nurse with a Bachelor's degree (BSN) from a four-year college or university required; A Master's Degree (MSN) preferred. Associate's Degree plus equivalent years of experience may be considered equivalent in lieu of a BSN degree.

Experience

  • Minimum of five years related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience, preferably acute care/behavioral health hospital setting.

Certifications/Licensure

  • BLS Instructor Required
  • Crisis Interventions Training Required (Provided up on hire)

Other Skills

  • Must have strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to teach classes and effectively provide one-on-one instruction.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals.
  • Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to coordinate, analyze, observe, make decisions, and meet deadlines in a detail-orientated manner.
