Overview

Purchases assigned product groups, obtains quality products at a competitive price, substitutes similar items as necessary, develops bid packages for purchases/services and negotiates firm pricing with vendors while maximizing the Group Purchasing Organization (GPO) contracts. Expedites orders as necessary. Monitors suppliers performances to assure compliance with pricing and deliveries as promised.

Responsibilities
    Reviews and implements GPO contracts and updates for assigned departments and product groups for products, equipment, and services.
  • Creates, sends out and analyzes bid requests for assigned department and product groups for products, equipment and services not covered by the GPO contracts.
  • Places orders for items for assigned departments and works with departments and vendors to coordinate the purchase of quality products at a competitive price.
  • Checks requisitions for accuracy, correcting errors and obtaining proper signature if required.
  • Conducts market searches for new quality, competitive priced products, equipment and services. Proposes new products, obtains product and assists in the coordination of the evaluations.
  • Coordinates and assists ordering departments, Finance and Receiving personnel to resolve problems encountered with ordering information price discrepancies or delivery.
  • Maintains a positive, competitive, professional and ethical relationship with all vendor representatives.
  • Remains informed of current events and topics associated with Purchasing for buyer's assigned departments through the various Purchasing publications.
  • Maintains and updates information on automated materials management system.
  • Promotes and enforces Purchasing Department policies and procedures.
  • Achieves and reports cost savings.
  • Covers for other Buyers.
  • Performs miscellaneous duties as required.
Qualifications

KNOWLEDGE , SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED

  • College degree in business administration or equivalent including courses in purchasing, business law, economics, accounting or marketing, preferred.
  • Computer, math, and basic accounting skills are necessary to perform in this position.
  • Use of computer programs such as Excel, Word and Access.
  • Good interpersonal skills, both verbal and written, plus customer service skills are required.
