Job Description
The Levy Group of Companies is seeking a Safety Specialist to work at our Michigan Aggregates Locations.
The Safety Specialist, in conjunction with operation management, will manage the safety program and related activities ensuring that employees have the necessary resources, equipment, and training to work safely. The Safety Specialist will assist in coordinating safety efforts in the business group.

Responsibilities
The Safety Specialist will:
  • Support locations in maintaining general Federal, State, and Local regulatory compliance
  • Measure and ensure locations execute the appropriate regulatory requirements
  • Champion the Division Safety Plan and support the sites in achieving the goals, objectives and metrics of the plan
  • Assist management in the alignment of a site's safety culture with the Company's vision
  • Partner with operations management teams to understand safety concerns, opportunities, gaps and collaborate to identify solutions to close the gaps
  • Develop and deliver safety training
  • Develop safety program based on organizational needs
  • Write and review Job Safety Analysis (JSA) documentation
  • Perform risk assessment on new processes, jobs and equipment
  • Support operations in managing injury cases and utilize OSHA recordkeeping knowledge
  • Assist operations in investigating safety-related incidents, root cause identification and ensures implementation of effective and sustainable corrective actions
  • Conduct safety audits, inspections and assessments to identify improvement opportunities and assist management with the implementation of recommended solutions
  • Write thorough reports for incident investigations, audit findings, site visit summaries and assessments.
  • Investigate, identify and develop a process to track the effectiveness of Safety programs
  • Use hierarchy of controls to determine appropriate protection for employees. Ensure PPE, safety tools and equipment are appropriate for the job performed
  • Cultivate positive working relationships
  • Track, gather and analyze safety related data and makes appropriate recommendations based on trends and findings
  • Assist with safety related administrative functions, use of safety systems, and tracking methods
  • Maintain confidential data/information
  • Perform other projects and duties assigned by the manager
Skills
The ideal candidate will have:
  • Safety related experience in a heavy industrial or manufacturing environment
  • Knowledge of OSHA and/or MSHA standards
  • Knowledge of local and state safety standards
  • Intermediate computer skills for Windows and Microsoft applications
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both written and verbal
  • Good presentation skills
  • Ability to interface with various levels of management and employees
  • A valid driver's license and a good driving record
  • Ability to travel up to 50% (ground)
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision, strong self-starter
  • Basic math skills
  • Experience working with multi-site operations is desired
  • Associate or Bachelor's degree in Safety Management, EH&S, industrial hygiene (or actively working toward completion) preferred but to required
