The Software Developer (I) is responsible for developing and delivering appropriate technical solutions to business opportunities in accordance with Agile methodologies and industry best practices. This role focuses on learning to write quality code, learning the proper methods to perform unit testing of the code, and learning how to deploy code to the appropriate SDLC environment(s) per the established department procedures. The Software Engineer (I) also assists senior technical staff with Tier 3 support of production systems

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND BASIC DUTIES:

Software Development - 100%.

  • Develops professional and technical expertise to be able to resolve basic technical issues and problems, performs programming tasks with basic-level complexity, and contributes to backlog/story/task refinement.

  • Works closely with team lead to determine proper technical solutions to assigned stories and tasks.

  • Codes and units test assigned stories and tasks with frequent coaching/mentorship from senior technology staff.

  • Receives approval on design, format, and functionality of all code with code review and ensures unit tests have passed.

  • Aligns with QA team to ensure that all define acceptance criteria is met before considering coding tasks as complete.

  • Writes code that is easy to understand with meaningful code comments so it can be maintained by other developers.

  • Ensures all coding work follows established release pipeline process.

  • Continually works towards having a solid understanding of all relevant software engineering concepts: writing, editing, updating, and debugging code, source code/version control, deployment pipelines, scum/kanban ceremonies, issue/bug tracking software, level of effort estimation, and unit testing.

  • Assists in flow charting and diagramming processes and helps produce documentation of how software is built/works

  • Actively participates in all agile ceremonies and software deployments. Provides guidance to interns

SECONDARY FUNCTIONS (IF APPLICABLE)

  • May work on special projects or other duties as assigned.

SUPERVISORY/BUDGETARY/EXTERNAL COMMUNICATION RESPONSIBILITY

  • May communicate with external vendors and service providers.

QUALIFICATIONS - EDUCATION, WORK EXPERIENCE, CERTIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field or an equivalent combination of experience and training.

  • Prior academic or professional coding experience required - ideally in an object-oriented language such as C++, C#, Java, and/or Python.

  • Prior knowledge of HTML, CSS, Javascript helpful. Previous Agile experience preferred.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Experience with Microsoft tech stack preferred - .NET, VS Code, Visual Studio, Azure. Basic knowledge of SQL concepts. Exposure to Salesforce Sales Cloud and/or Service Cloud beneficial. Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Sharepoint, and Teams
