Project Pre-Planning:

  • Determine what is needed for release.
    • Determine new parts that will be needed.
    • Pull new part numbers for new Parts, Assemblies, Documents, BOMs
    • Will new safety/EMC testing be required and need to be scheduled?
    • Determine new assemblies or cables that require coordinating with vendors to build/assemble/test.
      • Determine new drawings, schematic, build procedures, test procedures, test equipment, Other Manufacturing documents/Checklists.
      • Create structured Bills of material.
      • SAP creation needs.
        • New AIN's
        • New AMP's
        • New BOMs
        • Material Masters
    • Determine if things will need to be ordered.
    • What Documents will need to be created and written and/or updated?

In Process:

  • Start to coordinate with each group (SW, Project Management, Verification, Systems Engineering, Manufacturing, Purchasing, Kyla for manuals, Accounting for costing, QA, Regulatory) what each department will need to do and deliver to Ian/Scott for release.
    • Coordinate with Engineering to determine and new Hardware, Circuit Boards, Test Equipment, Suppliers needed,
    • Coordinate with Regulatory and Hardware Engineering for Safety, EMC, Regulatory testing requirements
    • Will any new circuit boards of custom items need to be created? (Schematic, Layout, BOM)
    • Does the release need any custom cables that need to be designed, source sub-components, create drawings?
    • First Article requirements
      • Create documentation and testing protocols
    • Coordinate with SW to determine what is needed for base image then create base image.
    • Create PC image or update current image
    • Write procedure for creating image.
    • Coordinate with Project management to determine SW change information that would be needed for Manufacturing procedure creation.
    • Coordinate with Verification to make sure they have the right equipment for testing and the right Image. Coordinate hardware configuration and establish process for manufacturing.
    • Coordinate with Systems Engineering for test scheduling and required documentation that will be needed.
    • Work with Manufacturing for input for me to create the Manufacturing Procedure, Second Tech Procedure, Contents Checklists, Inspection Checklist, Regulatory checklist, Support Procedures, Packaging kits, Labels, Licenses, etc. (Nexus DRF 3.5.2 had 21 new procedures/documents created for production.)
    • Coordinate with Purchasing to order samples and prototypes of any new items for testing/approval, source new suppliers and quote new parts/assemblies.
    • Work with Manuals group to inform them of what hardware is needed, new items/changes, interconnection instruction, Configuration of PC and System.
    • Determine labor times for assemblies and assign a labor cost to each assembly (Routings) Needs to be done in conjunction with accounting so that labor costs get calculated into assembly cost.
    • Coordinate with Testers and QA for training that may be needed and assign training per requirement in the EC.
    • Design/test/build/document any new testing equipment or process
    • Travel to supplier to train on building/testing.
    • Create Pilot Build Plan and Acceptance Forms
    • Oversee Pilot Build to correct any issues found.
    • Collect Spec documents and RoHS documentation for every new purchased part from Suppliers (this can sometimes take 3-4 weeks waiting for suppliers to respond)
    • Customer notifications of changes Pre or Post release
    • Supplier notifications of changes
    • Collect approved Pilot Build, V&V documentation, CCORs, Risk Review, Safety testing documents, training documents for release from responsible departments/persons.
    • Material Disposition (does old stock need to be scrapped?)
    • Create Spare Parts Kits (sometimes handled as separate EC if a lot of kits needed)
      • Work with Purchasing on what parts to order to stock as replacement parts.
      • Create kits IE: SSD replacement kit, Tower replacement kit, Motherboard replacement Kit....)
      • Write procedures for each kit
      • Work with Engineering and production for testing/verification of each kit procedure.
