We are looking for an Electrical Controls Specialist to help with the maintenance of the electrical and controls system at a large industrial facility. This role will be supporting the Rio Tinto Kennecott Concentrator Asset Management Team.

This role is a great opportunity for someone with exposure to industrial electrical and control systems to grow their experience at an exciting facility. As you are reporting to a Principal Electrical engineer, you will be:

  • Promote and enable a Zero Harm culture through actions and accountability.
  • Learning plant electrical and control systems, processes, and existing procedures, and monitoring data to provide low level assessments on asset health.
  • Supporting the maintenance execution team in breakdowns during the day with the potential for some call-outs.
  • Develop and perform the training of electricians and instrumentation technicians on relevant equipment, systems, and troubleshooting methods.
  • Assist engineers with identifying root causes of electrical, automation, and instrumentation failures and implementing solutions to prevent the reoccurrence of issues.
  • Supporting commissioning, projects, and fieldwork verifying electrical and controls.
  • Providing technical support to projects, operation maintenance, and troubleshooting functions.
  • Applying practical knowledge of processes and techniques to carry out engineering assignments relating to process control and optimization.
  • Assisting engineers on larger, complex assignments or works independently on less complex assignments.
  • Planning relevant safety requirements into all activities, tasks and projects based on assessed hazards, identified critical risks and mitigating actions.
  • Implementing engineering standards for technical drawings, equipment, installation practices and workmanship for all Electrical and Instrumentation works.
  • Ensuring site compliance with the electrical engineering standards and reviewing the standards on a regular basis.
  • Support the Safe Production System Team in fostering interdepartmental collaboration and working towards industry best practices.

What you'll bring

  • Experience working in industrial settings with comparable electrical, control, and instrumentation systems.
  • High level of English Competency (both written and oral)
  • A Bachelor's Degree in Engineering Technology, or equivalent related technical field experience.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and experience with computer system applications, including Word and Excel.
  • A deep understanding of electrical system function and safe work procedures.
  • Experience at an industrial facility.
  • Experience with motor starter circuits and variable frequency drives.
  • Experience troubleshooting industrial electrical, control, and instrumentation systems.
  • Ability to understand control drawings including schematics, loop diagrams, ladder logic, and block diagrams.
  • Autonomous, energetic, and collaborative
  • It will also be beneficial if you have:
  • Knowledge of Allen Bradley PLC and Emerson DeltaV DCS systems
  • Knowledge of High Voltage Distribution Systems up to 13.8kV
