Overview

SUMMARY OF POSITION

The Senior Material Handler position requires knowledge of work order picking, receiving, inventory control, Warehouse Management (WM) and SAP procedures. This position inspects inventory, runs reports, and utilizes problem solving skills on a frequent basis to drive issues to resolution. This position varies and moves based on the operational needs. It requires the knowledge and ability to step in and perform any and all the Material Handler and Selector functions. This position assists the entire team with warehouse and inventory needs, maintenance, and questions. This position is a key backup support to the Team Leaders and Shift Manager/Supervisor. This position may include assisting with the daily material handler functions.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

    High School or GED equivalent preferred.
  • 1+ year material handler experience highly preferred.
  • Dependable and punctual.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Able to accurately solve inventory issues and run reports in the warehouse management system.
  • Able to operate pallet jack, tow motor, narrow aisle, forklift, and order selector.
  • Able to learn and perform all the Material Handler and Selector
  • Able to read and understand the Receiving Log and the Shipping Workload Board.
  • Must demonstrate outward support of the company, management team, and team leaders by projecting a positive attitude.
  • Strong communication, leadership, problem solving, and conflict management skills (horizontal and vertical) required.
  • Must be self-motivated and highly effective at managing idle time.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

  • Work requires hearing, mental and visual attention.
  • Able to lift 50 lbs., able to bend and lift frequently, and able to work around dust.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

This is a fast-paced work environment with consistent pressure to complete duties as outlined above which requires ability to manage multiple projects at a detailed level and provide support to many internal departments in a fast-changing environment. Many duties listed above are time-sensitive and have strict deadlines for completion.

Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Perform any of the Material Handler and Selector tasks as requested.
  • Operate powered industrial trucks such as motorized pallet jack, tow motor, forklift, and narrow aisle.
  • Operate an order selector ("man-up") to retrieve, inspect, and correct inventory and pallets in the racks.
  • Perform truck battery maintenance as required.
  • Handle various internal inventory requests including retrieving, auditing, inspecting, or re-slotting items.
  • Lead and participate in material cycle counting efforts and adjust inventory as needed. Run inventory reports and follow up with research and resolution as requested.
  • Maintain Supply Chain Excellence Audit standards.
  • Utilize a Radio Frequency device and PC to support the warehouse management system.
  • Maintain knowledge of all functions used in the Finished / Raw Materials Warehouse.
  • Communicate, lead, and assist members of the team with questions in a professional and helpful manner.
  • Perform a wide variety of tasks and projects as assigned by the Shift Manager/Supervisor in relation to internal inventory requests (example: samples, quality requests, audits, balancing), inventory maintenance needs (ex. rack labels, dynamic aisle clean up, inventory movements, and slotting), and maintaining the overall warehouse safety and appearance.
  • Suggest process and system changes to enhance the productivity of the material handling responsibilities.
  • Assist the Shift Manager/Supervisor and Team Leaders in promoting housekeeping
  • Report any accidents/incidents or near miss accidents on the floor to the Shift Manager/Supervisor promptly and assist with incident investigation when needed.
  • Inspect, correct, and report all falling pallets on all tiers.
  • Participate in one or more of the following: Train-the-Trainer for equipment, Safety Committee, Evacuation Team including fire extinguisher training, and First Aid.
  • Clean minor Hazmat spills if necessary, according to MSDS sheet and Shurtape Technologies safety guidelines.
  • Cultivate Shurtape Technologies culture and values by promoting communication, teamwork, and respectful treatment of all individuals
  • Assist all partners and associate with WMS issues and training when needed.
  • Fill in for Team Lead when needed.
  • Log into the proper LM codes for the function being performed.
